Living in New York, and not the cool NYC New York but the New York where there’s cows and fresh air, definitely takes it’s toll come winter time. Winter here is about 6 months long. End of October until sometimes May, we see snowflakes on the weather channel.
As someone who loves being outside, hiking, exploring, adventuring, the frigid cold and accumulative snow make such experiences limited. There’s only so much I can do this time of year. So here’s my three favorite things to do for the 6+ months of winter.
- Go for a drive. I live in arguably one of the prettiest places in the state. After a fresh snowfall, driving down all the back roads, with arching branches everywhere, the lack of people and quietness is such a relaxing feeling. Finding the perfect cruise music with my Letty… One of my favorite times.
The Drives
2. Coffee dates with friends. Driving and using more gas than our coffee is about to cost, laughs, trying new things… just an all around good time and warm feeling of adventure.
3. Dates with Joshua. They are few and far between. Having been together for 6 years, we rarely going on a date, just the two of us. We often find ourselves adding two more, or joining two other people. We are homebodies who love being home with our Letty-Girl. I’ve found that date nights are not actually about going out and being wild, but staying in and watching our Netflix show and drinking hot chocolate. It’s the little things in life.
In my 22 years of living in snow country, I never liked snowmobiling, snowshoeing, skiing. I hate the cold, and I don’t enjoy hurting myself attempting to learn to ski or snowboard. I’ve learned to make the most out of the situations and crappy weather we are given though.

Came here to leave my thanks for your recent decision to follow Learning from Dogs. Thank you!!
